YASSA HOUSE

West African kitchen · Kololi

Charcoal, lime and patience.

A forty five seat kitchen off the Senegambia strip, cooking yassa, domoda and grilled fish the slow way. Six nights a week since 2019.

A bowl from the Yassa House kitchen
Everything is cooked to order, which is the reason and the excuse for the wait.
The place

One room, forty five seats, no reservations after nine.

Yassa House is run by Fatou and Lamin Ceesay, who opened it in 2019 in what had been a tyre shop. The charcoal grill is the only thing in the kitchen never switched off between services.

Everything is cooked to order. A table of six should expect about thirty five minutes for mains, and we would rather tell you that now than apologise for it later. If you are in a hurry, the afra platter and the chips are the quick things.

There is no service charge, no minimum spend and no cover. We do not add anything to the bill that is not food or drink.

The short version

Open

Tuesday to Saturday from 18:00, Sunday from 13:00. Closed Mondays. The kitchen shuts forty five minutes before the room does.

Booking

Call or WhatsApp +220 738 4410 between 10:00 and 21:00. We hold a table twenty minutes.

Visa and Mastercard with no fee, or cash in dalasi, euros or pounds at the day's rate.

Children

Welcome any night. High chairs, half portions of anything, and the kitchen will do plain rice and grilled chicken.

Vegetarian
